Does it have to be from a special jewelry store? If I get something from say, Sears, is that a big no-no? What's better: necklace, pendant or bracelet? Is there a hip item that every girl needs to have? I remember everyone used to have those heart pendants. Did that mean something or was that just a hip thing that every girl just had to have?

a couple of questions that you need to consider...
How much are u willing to spend?
How serious is your relationship?
What would you like her wearing?
Do you have an idea what she likes, or dislikes?

If money is no object then thats solved.
if you are very serious then check the rest of the question and things like engagement rings should not be a problem.
if you don't like her wearing say belly rings, DON'T buy it.
Obviously if she dislikes it, Don't buy it.

Good luck hope this helps.

It depends how long you know her. If she's a highschool gf, then WHATEVER YOU DO, do not buy very expensive jewelry. Girls are spooked off by that, and think you want something extra from them (*nudge nudge*.) You probably do; but if you give her jewelry, you won't be getting it. Stick with something in the $10-50 range but make sure it's pretty and heartfelt (a charm bracelet is a must-have. Just make sure it doesn't LOOK cheap.) It's the thought that counts, and a girl wants to feel comfortable around her bf. Also, don't buy her something generic that almost every other girl has. Girls like to feel unique and special.

It depends on your relationship. Like, if you just started dating, don't buy her a ring or something too fancy as that might be too forward. But if you have been dating for a long time, don't get her something cheap. It doesn't really matter what store you go to. Necklaces and bracelets are usually a good bet. Maybe get her something with her initials or some other engraving. Earings are good too-just make sure she has hers pierced. If you are young and have been dating a short time, go for a simple chain necklace or some pearls. If you have been dating a while and are serious, get nice silver or gold or even diamonds-like a nice bracelet or pair of earings. And remember her style while you shop. Don't get a casual girl a really fancy thing she won't wear, or a dressy girl something too simple.

I agree with the other folks. I want to add, it is the thought that count. Show her you really care, find a thoughtful piece of jewelry or hard to find one. so she knows you went through a lot of trouble finding her the piece. you can try this http://galleriapangea.com/jewelry/handmade_jewelry/products.html My girlfriend loved the bracelet I gave her because the design is so unique.

I would say a pair of diamond earrings. They are so classic. It is something that every girl must have.
