good shoes (Good grip, ankle support, lightweight, waterproof, NOT BRAND NEW), compass (Look at it as you are leaving on the hike, put pointer in direction traveling, to get back just 180* your direction). I'm not sure wear you're hiking, or the weather, if it's mt Reneer, bring signal mirror, flares, 2-way radio, wear all wool clothing (it's keeps you warm even when wet), sunglasses, hat, food water, matches, knife, flashlight, etc.

Always, tell people where you are going so someone will look for you when you get lost. Use a GPS and bring a flair gun without trying to burn down the mountain when needed. Warm clothes and more warm clothes.
Just stay home it could be very dangerous.

Socks. Good dry socks. Good shoes too. Remember a pound on the feet equals 5 on the back.
