how do i type words on my lap top windows xp computer?

i just bought a laptop computer because i love to write even poems but iwant to know how do you and where do you go when you start your computer to write and type down lilature on it i know how to down loaded but knowing how to type it on there

Open a word processor program like MS Word. If you do not have Word, then you can use a basic word processor that comes packaged with Windows called Wordpad.
You'll find it under Accessories.
