originally there was a harvest feast. just like normal farming cultures, celebrate a good season. the Indians came to free load, it was welcomed because the whites were outnumbered and didn't want to make enemies. that's the "first Thanksgiving" it was eventually rolled up with a religious tradition of giving thanks and turned it into more of the holiday we have. presently our thanksgivings are very different than 100 years ago and completely different than 300 years ago.

Europeans came to America, took everything they could, and were very thankful to have such a great opportunity to rob technologically inferior people.
