I know baseball journalists get to vote, but how many? And how is a writer selected? Are they given a list of nominees or can they vote for anyone they want? Thanks a lot.

The Baseball Writer's Association of America.

There are 2 voters from this association from each major city. This is how they vote:

First place vote = 14 points
Second place = 9 points
and so on until 10th place vote gets 1 point.

If Jeter got one more 1st place vote, it would be tied. In that case, I don't know what would happen, because it has never happend.

Here were the TOP 3 for the AL :

Justin Morneau 320
Derek Jeter 306
David Ortiz 193

For example: American League: Two baseball writers from each American League city submit their votes on players of their choice. Must be a member of the Baseball Writers Association of America.
Congratulations, Justin Morneau AL MVP !!!!!!!!!

it particularly is voted on via individuals of the Baseball Writers affiliation of usa. i think 2 writers are chosen for each MLB city, and that they each positioned up their applicable 10 selections for MVP (ranked). each first place vote get 10 factors, 2d place gets 9, etc. Whichever participant gets the main factors wins the award.

I think all the major ones get to do it. It's called a borda count. They can nominate whoever they want...see even AJ Pierzynski got a vote.
