I am assuming you mean the check engine light? Unfortunatly, the check engine light has nothing to do with brakes. The check engine light is used for the OBD-II system, which only accounts for the emissions systems on the car. If your ABS light came on, thats probably what you meant. The smoke was due to the brake being fully applied for some reason. Did it have a metallic smell to it? Like a clutch if you ever smoked one of them. Check the emergency brake, ensuring it is not on, this should have been the first thing I said but anyway, if it is on you will have a (brake) light illuminated. Make sure it is off all the way, pull it up and you should feel tension on it within the first 1 1/2 inches of applying it. If it feel loose then your emergency brake is locked up. If it is ok, then you might have a broken spring in it, if i tis in fact drum brakes, if disc then you might have blown out the piston, look for fluid leaking on the inside of the rim. you could probably have contamintes in the fluid also, which may have plugged the line.

Sounds like your brakes might have overheated. To change rear brakes on a honda is about one hour of work, probably about $100 with parts. But you can also be having problems with your brake booster or maybe master cylinder. I'd have a mechanic check it out first to make sure.

Sounds to me like a wheel cyclinder blew out causing it to leak fluid on your brake drum. Thats probably where the smoke came from. And it caused the pedal to go down. I wouldn't drive it until it gets fixed. good luck

Could be here all night giving you answers.
I bet your vehicle does not have Disc Brakes.
If I am right and your brakes have shoes than all that is required is to adjust the brakes than they will be fine.
Before you adjust them remove the drums and check the brake linings. Waltz.

The first and obvious thing i think of is that you need new brake pads, they are severely worn down.. but i would definitely get it checked out as soon as possible and would stop driving it until then

New brakes. Take your car to a garage and have them take a look at it.
