Romans 3:23 ...For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

"People were created to have fellowship with God, but because of our stubborn self-will, we chose to go our own independent way and the fellowship with God was broken. This self-will characterized by an attitude of active rebellion and passive indifference, is evidence of what the Bible calls sin"

Sin is a religious term meaning an evil act againist a god or yourself, depending upon the religion. Ignorance is knowing something is wrong and doing nothing about it. Like saying the town you live in is dirty, so you throw more trash on the ground.
There is a higher evil than ignorance and regret though, this is deaf mutism. People that blindly follow even though it kills them. Ignorance and regret stem from this. People that turn a blind eye and cold shoulder to everything, saying in paranoia that there is nothing to deal with. They deny themselves trapped in silence and inactivity because of fear. They believe they can do nothing and they are not responsible for nothing. It is always someone elses fault, quick to place blame and quick to make the problem worse. They live and they die, they are nothing. They never really existed.
Now everyone is some varying degree of this. The whole point is that you realize this and you try to live your life in balance. All the while trying to get others to do the same. Through balance we can find true freedom and reach our true potential, as far as we want to go. The world is the way it is right now because of such a high level of deaf mutism. It can't be stopped, but it must be challenged. Either that or this so called evolved human race will be nothing more than brainless meat for each other to kill. This is why we are truly less evolved than anything else, only humankind is deaf mute. This is because we tried to play nature under nature. We are only killing ourselves in pursuit of life.

Sin is missing the mark of what God wants for your life. It can be willful - lying, cheating, stealing, etc. or a failure on our part to do something we know we should - stop to help someone in need, etc.
Ignorance is not bliss on this. There is a reason each of us is born with a conscience. We may try to do everything in our power to ignore it, but when it comes down to it we know what is right and what is wrong.

I believe its different for everyone. We all have things we consider taboo for one reason or another, I believe we consider these sins. Although, I do like the idea of taking the negative connotation out of sin by simply saying it is ones own ignorance.Great question!
