There is a wonderful book called the "Millionaire Mind," which studied 1000 self made millionaires. I suggest you read it.
Second, what is wrong with having employees work for you. Imagine you wanted to build your own home, is there any dishonor in hiring people to help you? Imagine you wanted to sell food to the public, is there any dishonor in hiring a cook or a waitress? A person who is an employee wants a wage rather than to be self employed. They are making a willing trade. They are surrendering a share of their work to residual clamants such as banks and business owners in exchange for a guaranteed fixed return for their work.
Finally, I have known janitors who have accumulated millions. As one told me, it isn't what you earn that matters but rather what you spend. They still made money off of others work either through loaning money to banks and companies in the form of bonds and cds, or by owning businesses in the stock market.
So, if what you are doing is accepting a fixed reward that is less than the total value of your work, then you will not become obscenely rich no matter how hard you work, because to avoid using someone elses work you cannot put any money in the bank, you cannot use a 401(k) and you cannot own stocks or bonds. You could potentially buy land for cash but you would have to put the cash in a jar until you saved up enough and that would probably take a lifetime without any interest accumulating.

Well I don't know how much and obscene amount of wealth is, but I guess you'd know if you saw it. Your statement seems to be hoping that your failure to achieve a wealthy status is due to your own high moral standards rather than laziness, bad decisions, or other flaws in yourself.
Most of the very wealthy people I know have become that way by working hard, making good decisions, and taking risks. There is also a fundemental difference in the way they look at money. Most people look at money and see all the things they can buy with it. The wealthy look at money and see seeds, to be planted to make more money.
They risk their money from Hard work, by using it to start or invest in businesses so they and make more more money. Those businesses provide jobs for people like you and me.
Socialism needs to be called by its real name, slavery. Where every person and all they produce belongs to the state.

Hard work almost never makes someone rich.
The rich either inherit their wealth (Paris Hilton),
steal it (any politician),
or abuse the poor to get it (Bill Gates in India).
