I personally skipped out on wearing my retainer because it hurt so much and I was so over with having metal across my teeth, not to mention trying to eat. I also felt a little silly wearing it.
Now, however, I seriously wish I had worn them. It has even been a year since I've had my braces off, and I can't wear my retainer anymore due to shifting. The six months go by so fast, and I never thought it retracted from a person's style when they wore it. I actually thought it was attractive when a person would wear it and be so comfortable as if it wasn't there.

No not really...only if you let it get to you. I myself have to wear a big football retainer that makes my jaw and mouth look swollen...I have to wear it 4 hours a day and all night. It costs 500 dollars to replace it but it was the best retainer for my teeth. It would seem like a drag to wear seeing as while wearing it I can't talk, but all in all its not that bad. People understand that I'm taking good care of my teeth even if it makes me look wierd sometimes...Don't let it get to you!~best wishes

You gotta do what you gotta do for those bad teeth you inherited from your parents. Thank God it can be fixed. Wear your retainer and don't give a care what others think. In a few years your gonna have a million dollar smile! ( Make sure you whiten.)

I'm actually wearing mine right now. No it doesn't cramp my style. I think I look cute in it and it keeps my teeth from going back to what they were. I only have to wear it at night now but when I did have to wear it during the day I thought I looked better than I did in braces.

I've found that if you are the sort of person that has style (confidence with perhaps a touch of flair), then it doesn't really matter what you are wearing or how you specifically look.
