The answer is the "image of God".....
It is breath of life.....
Without it, everything in the body breaks down cell by cell.... With it, we are given to reason, to understand, to motivate and to council....... We are given to experience because of it, without it, even Adam, was no more than a lump of clay in the shape of a man.... with it, Adam BE--CAME.... a "living"........ soul.....
Your sister,
Ginger

The human brain specifically the cerebrum (gray matter) controls our thought processes. Ethics and memory play impt roles. The heart , according to the common belief makes us feel. However, the heart doesn't really feel. Ultimately, our brain is responsible for all the gamut of emotions that we as human beings , are capable. Most of our emotions originate in our brain specifically in our limbic system.
The body frequently responds to Shame by warmth in the upper chest and face, Fear by a heightened heartbeat, increased "flinch" response, and increased muscle tension. The sensations connected with anger are nearly indistinguishable from fear. Happiness is often felt as an expansive or swelling feeling in the chest and the sensation of lightness or buoyancy, as if standing underwater. Sadness by a feeling of tightness in the throat and eyes, and relaxation in the arms and legs. Desire can be accompanied by a dry throat and heavy breathing.
In the psychotherapy field, advocates of Re-evaluation Counselling claim that painful emotion is best relieved via the well-known (and sometimes automatic) discharge processes of crying, laughing, sweating, shaking and trembling. In Hypnotherapy, these emotions are best addressed via the subconscious mind.
Emotions originate from the limbic system in the brain. The limbic system is actually several components within the brain that control the fight or flight response, hunger, thirst, fear, bliss, sadness, short and long-term memory, etc.
Sensory perception, things we see and touch is linked to some part of our memory and we associate a response with the given object. Fire is a good example, at an early age one is taught that fire burns and hurts, that is embedded into our memory so we behave and particular way around fire. Emotions work the same way, one associates particular feelings(chemical reactions within specific parts of the limbic system) to events, people, places, things, etc. Any adverse changes to that event, person, place, etc. causes stimulation and a resulting emotion. I believe hormones(such as dopamine and serotonin) play a huge part in emotions through up or down regulation.
Our emotions make us human, even though primates express emotions such a love, fear, and anger.
Women are more emotional than men and that is because there exists a physiological differences(possible?) in the brain and hormonal differences.

Scientifically speaking, it is our brain that enable us to fee, think, and it is the source of our emotion. But that's not so. Think about it, our body and brain are composed of minerals and atoms that are not living. Hence can all these create life, consciousness, and emotion? If it is true that all these things are the source of feeling and emtion, then love is merely a reaction or interaction of molecules. Hence it is the soul, the breath of God that serve as the source of our emtions and feelings.

The intuitive aspect of mind makes the emotions as its manifest form.
Take a look at a baby. It is yet to develop logic, and experiences every situation totally and intensely (though without much self-awareness or even residual memory of it), and manifests by hearty laughter or desperately crying at even small insignificant things.

The way our brain processses stimuli as well as the culture we were raised. Some people do nto feel emotions, others a limited array....does serial killers sound familiar...studies show that they may be lacking in certain chemical areas as well as over active in others in the brain.

Our brain and mind.
Our learnings and experiences.
Our sense of logic, pleasure, fun and pain etc.
All these machines are marvellous and make us think, feel, analyze etc. But all these machines work and work fine only when they are supported by our soul.
Without soul in the background, all these machines just don't work !!

It is all brain chemistry.
Part is nature and part is nurture.
We have freedom of choices, yet we are jailed by our limited persecution.
It is the ultimate control and ultimate loss of control
