the other morning, my brake warning light came on, it was cold outside, however after about a half and hour the light went off and stayed off the rest of the day and the next day. It came back on tonight {it was cold and rainy out}. There is no noise coming from my brakes and they feel fine. Should I be concerned? What could be the cause?

Escapes have been known to have the brake fluid level sending units act up that is probably where the problem is.. and also.. if you have an automatic transmission it is a CD4E.. They can be fussy.. be sure to have the trannie flushed at least every 30,000 miles.. it uses regular Mercon fluid not .. Mercon V.. some of the early models had the transmission dip stick mis-labeled.

That it does, open the hood and add some brake fluid. Occasionally Fords (like my escape) from 2000 forward will have a brake fluid cap problem. If you live in an area of extreme heat, it will crack in places and spill out, causing the light. Nto to mention sometimes it just gets used up. I'd check my lines just to be safe that you aren't leaking fluid. You can do this by sitting stationary and pumping the breaks for a couple of minutes. Then get out and look under the car for fluid and under hte hood for spray. Make sure to turn the car off first...

As was mentioned earlier you should check your fluid level. If it’s low, top it off with “dot 3” or “dot 4” brake fluid. (Brand doesn’t matter.) You should also have your brakes checked, because very often low brake fluid level is an indication of worn brake pads.
