Is it just me or does Windows Update causes more problems than it prevents? If not; are all those updates necessary?

I believe the security updates are both helpful and necessary. Driver changes often cause trouble. I have heard from a number of people that IE7 caused problems for them, amd I just saw it on my update list.

The "Hight Priority" updates really are just that. The optional ones are...well, optional. I always avoid the driver updates since I prefer to download and install my drivers directly from the vendors' websites.

Personally, I only download the security updates. The only time I download any of the other updates is when they are hardware fixes for my computer.
