No. It is based on the novel Eragon by Christopher Paolini published in 2002( good read). It has many commom fantasy elements. It draws heavily from the works of Tolkien , u know, the whole el, dwarf, dragon thing. Its sequel is Eldest. THey are good books, and I look forward to seeing the film.
