The 1500!
If you intend to keep to keep the vehicle for a long time, then the gasoline engine is the only way to go. A duramax has a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. But what are you going to do when the truck is out of warranty and needs glow plugs or injectors or some other kind of engine repairs? You don't know what an expensive repair bill is until you pay for repairs on one of those diesel engines!

If you are not going to pull a heavy trailer or carry big loads the 1500 is best. They do make a HD 1500 if you want a little more truck. Don't over look a quad cab Colorado 5 cyl .. I had one and it drove well and got 27 mpg at highway speeds.

if you're just commuting and never hauling anything...then get the 1500. but the duramax is a great choice if you want to haul anything, i mean ANYTHING, they have plenty of power and at highway speeds can get more than 20 mpg.
