It has got to be the fan.The big outside units that have a switch built in the wall.Look for a switch that says something like fan auto.I think this has got to be your fan running. If not try turning the t-stat higher.
The window units. They might have 2 nobs.So take a good look at them and see what they are set to.Make sure your fan ain't running or switch it to off. These type of Ac's do not have a t-stat so they just run when you cut them on sorta like a fan on high or low.If that don't work unplug it.

If the temp is ok probaly just the fan running. Check thermostat and see if it is AUTO or ON. If it is on switch it back to auto. If your temp is to hot or cold you've got other problems. Check your outddor unit if it is also running quick fix call a repair man if it is not running it can be as simple as replacing yout T'stat or turning the power off to your unit to reset it.

if you have a heat pump and it is still running then you have low Freon and it is trying to recheck itself but you must have a leak and the only way to have this done is by a Cert, tech, and he will find your leaks and fix it. Heat pumps work off of the cold air. you could turn off the fuse box fro out side.

It may only be your fan running

- need to turn the fan switch from ON to AUTO - then it will only be working when the heat or a/c is on.

that is separate from the "Cool - off - Heat" switch

Don't fool with it until you unplug it. You don't want to get electrocuted. It's also a good idea to unplug it to make sure it's not possessed. If it still runs after it's been unplugged, call Ghost Busters.
