Do all of your homework, and study for tests. Also when you get a paper or a test with a grade lower than an A go to the teacher and ask for help and further explanation of anything you might now understand. There are several ways to teach any subject so if you aren't getting it one way, they might be able to explain it in another way that you will understand, most teacher are will to spend extra time with you and help you out if you show an honest interest in learning and improving your grades. Your not like to get much help if your a smart a$$ed class clown who talks through out class and doesn't do their homework. If you have any personal tension with any particular teacher or you find that you just aren't getting it with any of their teach methods go to one of the other teachers who teach the same subject. When you ask for their help be sure not to put down your current teacher as incompetent or an a$$hole. Explain either that despite their best efforts you are still not getting it wnd hope that maybe a different teaching style would help you, or explain that because your personality conflict with your teachers personality you find it difficult to ask for or receive help from that teacher. Hope this helps good luck it's going to be a lot of hard work

The key to getting good grades is not just working hard; you also have to know how to study and what to study. Everyone has their own way of studying, what works for one person may not work for another. For example I have to study the last couple days before the exam otherwise I won't get the results that I want. Now if you tell anyone this, they will tell you that I'm wrong, but I'm not! I listen and concentrate on what my instructors say in the class but I don't really study during the semester unless it is the night before the exam and IT WORKS FOR ME. One of my classmates however, studies every single night and that works for her. You have to find your own style.
The other thing is that you have to know what to study. Listen carefully to your teachers during the class. They usually put greater emphasis on the stuff that are going to be on the test. Make sure you take a note of them and know them very well for the test.
Good Luck!

I'm in the same boat...I'm a 10th grade sophomore this year and last year I had a 3.3 GPA (4 A's, 1B, 1C,) and this year, I need above a 3.5. And the pressure is really packing on this year since 10th and 11th grade are supposedly your "most important years of high school." And it's not like I don't try...I put effort into my two weak subjects (math and science) but I still don't do that well. I think you just need to devote time to those weak subjects. So no TV...

I have gotten straight A's all my life, an A- was the worst I've gotten.
You shouldn't study ALL day, it just stresses you. It's good to have at least 1 hour of playtime, to relax tension, and just do your homework. Try to have a good relationship with your teacher. Although it is a lot of stress, as you get older, try to meet new friends, and think of school as a fun, learning environment. Don't stress yourself, and even if you don't get straight A's.... relax!!! You've only got one life. When you are up in heaven, straight A's don't count, it matters on what impact and character you've had towards the world and other people around you. Don't set too high goals like you are doing now, you should go up gradually, If you normally get B's and C's, don't expect to get straight A's all of a sudden. Go up gradually, From C's, to B's, to A's....hope you have a good high school year! Then college....

first step. Stop all games, chatting and viewing forums for anything besides work. Then that'll open more time up for you to do stuff like study smart... Look for all the key points in subjects, if its math, practice the use and memorize all formulas as well take time to check out practice questions, but with things like history, you have to spend time to just memorize. And since you have access to the internet, make use of it to search out for questions and answers.
Umm.. my final suggestion would be.. whenever you have time. either review or prepare for things that are coming up, like the next chapter of physics or even for a subject next year or semester.

The best thing to do to get straight "A"s in class is to listen up. If your one of those people who find it hard to focus, i recommend that you take notes on EVERYTHING and really get to know the info and don't just cram before a test, this will help in the future as well!
