Because it is sooo convenient! What did our grandmothers do before family restrooms? Squat out in the hay field behind the store?

When you have two children under the age of five (or goodness, more!), it's very nice to be able to all go to the bathroom together so the parent can keep an eye on them.

Also, it's a great boon for fathers -- therefore mothers.

for the parents that have young children that can't go into a bathroom alone. This way a women can take her son to the bathroom or a man with his daughter. They have family restrooms at some rest stops.

So you can go to the restroom with your children. Do you know how scary it is for a parent with a child of the opposite sex to go into a bathroom alone and you have to stand outside and wait for them. You never know what kind of creeps are in public restrooms.

If you have small children, more than one child, or if you all need to go. You don't have to worry about bringing little boys into the girl's restroom and vice versa.

I'm sure a father wouldn't want to take his young daughter into a grown mens' restroom.

Family Restrooms works well with people with disabilities, senior citizen and parents or caregivers with young children. The one I've been to in Palm Desert, CA is very spacious, allowing mothers to nurse their babies. There was a couch, a TV and toys for kids.

Bottom line ... to encourage families to shop in their store.

The family washroom has a few benefits to the consumer:

- allows entire family to stay together
- parent can use washroom without having to leave child unattended or without worrying about the child wiggling out under the walls of the stall
- helpful to dads if men's washroom doesn't have a change table
- they usually have a comfortable seat for breastfeeding
- private place for family to take a moment out of the bustle of the store

My husband and I have definitely appreciated these rooms. We were in a really neat one in Abbotsford, BC last week that had two toilets - one for adults and one for very small kids (it was only about a foot high).

single dads are the main reason. Have you ever seen a changing table in the men's restroom?

I think it is to accomodate all types of families. Be it a single father or even a parent with more than one child. Especially those with an infant and toddler. It makes it safe and the parent is able to complete the task in one room.

i think it is for people with disabled parents or children. and dads with young daughters. i know if i were a dad i probablly would not want to take my daughter in a gross male public restroom.
