I've already renewed it twice and I haven't even cracked it open. It's one of those cat mysteries. I really want to read it but, I'm too embarassed to renew it again.

There's no need to be embarrased, the librarian won't know that you haven't read any of it, and might assume you've just got a few pages still to go. And anyway, the librarian won't care; renewing books is just a job.
However, I think you might as well return it. If you've renewed it twice and haven't even opened it by now, then you probably won't. You can't REALLY want to read it; you can always make time for the things you REALLY want to do. So take it back, someone else might be waiting to borrow it ... and the librarian will just assume you've read it!
Try looking for something that really grabs your interest this time ... something that you CAN'T WAIT to read!

If you have already renewed it twice and still haven't read it, what are the chances you will actually read it the third time?

I say, return it, let others have a chance to check it out, take note of the title and author, then check it out again sometime when you have more time or inclination to read it.

As far as being embarrassed ... don't be ... books are just numbers in the system ... no one is going to pay any attention, and if they do, they will just think it's a really outstanding book that you greatly enjoy!

the only people knowig that you renewed it again would be the librarians (besides all of us who don't know you lol) and the people who actuall take the time to look at the card in the envelope inside the book... they can only see it untill the card gets full. then a new one is placed in that envelope... who cares what the librarians think at least your bringing it back when you are supposed to... that what they get paid to do... i say do it and to hell with what they or anyone else think....

No, return it, becuase there might be someone waiting for it, and because you did not take advantage of the time you had with it, it should go back to give someone else the chance to enjoy it - the chance you did not take. You may take it out after its been there for a bit.

It's a Cat mystery, not War and Peace. Return it and get it later.

No, don't renew it. Keep it, and since you know that the longer you have it the bigger the fine, you will have incentive to read it. Also, the library can always use a few more shekels.

first of all, make sure that no one else at the library is wanting to read it. second, if it's what i am thinking of... i read everything and those books to me are not that great.. but if you want to read it.. don't worry about the library, and don't be embarrassed.. as long as no one else wants it.. go for it!

Been there, done that. Take it back. I'm a lifelong reader but even I need a break from it every once and a while.

That sounds like a mystery in and of itself.
