you can install 4 drives in your computer at any one time with standard IDE channels. You will have 2 hdds on the first channel, a master and a slave. the same can be done on the second channel. There is a master and a slave. Keep the hdds on the first channel, then put the cd/dvd drives on the second channel. The cables generally have three plugs on them, one for the motherboard, and two for the drives. just make sure that the drives are setup as master and slave. It's easy, the jumpers are next to the IDE and power plugs. the info on the drive will tell you which jumpers to use.
Easy as :-)

Two options. Unhook the ribbon cable to the floppy drive, do you really use it? If you do, then take out the standard CD-ROM and put in the CD burner. The CD burner reads disk like a CD ROM, so why have two devices that do the same thing?

It's really very simple. All you need to do is open up your system unit (aka CPU) and insert the cd writer drive and secure it by al least 2 screws. Now, plug it in with the remaining IDE cable (flat, gray ribbon cable around 3-inch wide) you have (the other 3 is already plugged in your 2 Hdsk and 1 cd-rom). Then, attached the power supply (four-wire cable with connector on end). Your off to go!

I take it which you have IDE not ordinary drives and optical drives that's why you're asking this as in case you have SATA drives then you relatively heavily isn't speaking approximately masters and slaves. you may get greater valuable overall performance out of your not ordinary drives in the event that they're related on distinctive controllers. In different words, do not make your not ordinary drives share an information cable. this suggests your first selection may be the main suitable. Now in case you would be burning archives on your optical rigidity or copying archives from it on your not ordinary rigidity, you may get greater valuable overall performance if the source is on a distinctive cable from the objective. What I recommend is assume you have HD1 and OD1 on one archives cable and the different HD2 and OD2 on the 2nd archives cable. in case you may desire to repeat archives from a CD/DVD to HD1, positioned the CD/DVD on OD2. i'm hoping you're turning out to be me. on the different hand, in case you ought to replica archives from a disc on your HD2, positioned the disc on OD1. it is desirable additionally while burning archives to a CD/DVD.
