I want to do the "sand ceremony" with my fiance and son at our wedding Dec. 2 -- is there anywhere in Arizona, East Valley area, that sells colored sand for this, like in white/black/other colors? I'd like to get a vase also, for pouring it into and displaying it -- could I find this stuff at a craft store maybe?

You can find the sand and even a vase for your ceremony at any large craft store. Look in the children's craft section. I would suggest Michael's or A.C. Moores. You might also find the sand at www.dickblick.com.

I've MADE colored sand!

You'll need:
Salt
chalk
paper plate

Pour salt on a paper plate and lay the chalk horizontal and rub it over the salt. Its not as bright as the purchased sand.

Here is another way...
You'll need

Sand
Food Coloring
Glass or Metal Bowl (you can also use paper cups, paper bowls, or baggie)

Use one bowl for each color you want to make. Place the desired amount of sand in the bowl. Pour on enough water to barely cover the sand, then add a generous amount of food coloring to each container. Stir and set the bowl aside and let it sit until it is the desired color (this can take a while). Once the sand has reached the desired color, empty out the extra water, and pour the sand onto paper towels to dry.

Good luck and best wishes!
