If the keyboard goes "abcdef..." this caused problems with the old typewriters. They would cause the strikers to constantly become jammed. The "qwerty" keyboard is a result of this. It allows common words to be spelled without jamming the keys. Of course with the advent of computers this is no longer the case. But it is traditional and it is how we now learn to type.

the guy who invented the Qwerty keyboard (i assume they observed because it a keyboard lower back then) spent a protracted time attempting to come back up with the ideal mixture and association of keys, it exchange into to love, decrease them 'clashing' and getting all caught or something :S while they have been used too rapid, seeing as lower back then it exchange into all on typewriter, and that i don't submit to in thoughts the small print however the Qwerty format exchange into the main effective and easy to apply for the guy typing for for a manner it worked ^_^ additionally, in case you think of roughly it if it exchange into laid out like abcdefg.. our arms could be all shoved over to a definite area of the keyboard simply by fact the letters for all the words does not be prepared by utilising any skill..

From the early days of the typewriter it has been that way. Basically the keys are set up in such a way that a majority of (english?) words can be typed just by resting the hands over the keyboard and moving only the fingers.
