i was in the same perdicament as well. I came out to my mom my third year of college. BOY was she shocked cause ive been putting it off for a very long time. It actually came out in an arguement and i felt like i had nothin to lose by telling her.. so this is exactly what i said:
" mom..... do you kno what a lesbian is?.... GREAT (sarcastically).. cause thats just what i am!"
Man was that an arguement squasher.. she was so shocked she forgot about what she was complaining over.. when i look back upon the feasco .. i could have let her down a little easier but some people need to hear it how it comes out. And not to mention.. it felt like 89374983749 pounds of weight was lifted off my shoulders. Good luck buddy!

as hard as it may be, coming out is eventually the best policy. you will get tired of part of your life being a secret and will want it to be out in the open. also, when you find someone you love and want to be a permanant part of your life, you will want to be able to include them in every aspect. pretending to be someone you're not always ends up having an effect on your mental well-being. honesty is always the best policy, but just make sure you are prepared for the results of your honesty.
good luck in your decision!!

Honesty is the best policy! Wouldn't you feel better knowing you're not hiding? The love your family has for you is not going to change. They may not even be so shocked to hear it. Happy Thanksgiving.

even though things have been rough with my dad since i came out, i don't regret it at all. i can finally be completely open and honest about who i am and not hide or lie or any of that bs. come out to show others that it's ok to be gay, that we're normal, that we love just the same as everyone else. good luck!

I told my parents because I didn't want that lie between us. I was trying to rebuild an open, honest relationship with them and I didn't want such a huge lie coming between us.

Well if you don't, things might be a bit awkward when you bring your boyfriend over to meet your parents. And after a while, keeping it from them starts to get to you, it feels like you're lying to them...or at least that was my case.

I was thinking about this the other day, and it occurred to me coming out is pointless. It feels liberating, but what the hell is the point?
