I was in one of those curious thought patterns tonight, and was wondering....what does it feel like when you break a bone? Now, I know it can't really be described exactly, since everyone's experiences are different. But, what is the feeling like? Is it a feeling of intense pressue, stinging, or something else? I've thankfully never broken a bone, that's why I'm asking.

It is the most intense pain you could possibly imagine. Think of the worst pain you've ever had, and take it the 100th power. It hurts so much you can't feel anything else--you can't tell if you feel pressure, or stinging, all you feel is the pain. When you go to the physical therapist and they ask you to rate you pain on a scale of 1 to 10, a broken bone is an eleven. I pray that you never have to experience it.

The type of break, location of the break and the bone or bones broken will play a big part in how well someone will be able to withstand the break. Pain tolerance also will play a big part. I have had people say it feels like sandpaper being rubbed together. I have had people say I heard and felt a popping sensation. I have seen grown men with what I would call a mild break being crying and screaming in pain. I have also had people with bad breaks and they are pretty calm about it all. Just depends on the person and the break.

Having several broken bones in my life I can only describe it as a horrible ache. Most broken bones cause the surrounding tissues to swell. Moving can be like a tearing or stabbing pain that shoots throught the area.

depends, i played hockey so i've had a lot of broken bones and other injuries. small fractures just feel like you bruised it bad. the bad ones when the bone is completely broken are like the other guy said about taking a hammer and repeatedly smashing your finger.

it is extreme pain,
with little feeling past the break,
a complete break (not a fracture) may result in loss of movement until the bone is set (aligned)

I broke my arm and it swelled and felt hot. I couldn't move it. I felt a sharp pain if I used my other arm to move it.
