I am 38 weeks pregnant...i am just dying to get this baby out of me. small history... i have lost my plug a week and a half ago... am 3 cm dilated...i am soooo sore...last 2 pregnancies were induced so i have no idea what to expect, and when to expect it.
the plug wasnt bloody....am i still waiting for "bloody show" or is that only in some woman? is it possible to go into labor without water breaking first? any quick tips you think mighbe hepful. I am being a bit neurotic about this cause im a "planner" i like toknow when things are going to happen, so i can arrange things like sitter, ride to hospital etc.... plus hubby is 5 hours away, so as much as i know God is in control of when this baby is going to come... just looking for a time line, of what maybe to expect.

As much as I'm aware, you can lose your plug a couple of weeks before actual labor starts. Generally you should start experiencing contractions several days to a week before its actually time. Walking as much as you are physically able will help you be a little more prepared down there as it helps the baby position itself as well. I would call your sitter one day this week and have him/her on standby as well as a ride to the hospital; keep your bag packed and sitting by the door. Also make out a list of phone numbers for yourself or some family member to have handy when the time comes. My husband works in the oil field so I completely understand your panic. And your next to last statement is spot-on.. Only God knows the exact moment when your baby will be ready. Best of luck, not much longer!!!!!!!
**I read some of my "What to Expect When You're Expecting" book to help maybe better answer your question (i never went thru all of this--i had an emergency section)--here are a few things:
-contractions intensify; are not relieved by change in position
-more frequent contractions
-it says that altho u pass ur plug it COULD be up to 3 weeks away
-look for ANY change in discharge
-diarrhea (strangely enough, it says some women may experience loose stools just prior to onset of labor)
I wish you only the best and I hope all goes well!!!!

after losing your plug if you haven't gone into labor within 24 hours it will reform. some women can walk around dilated to 5 for weeks and be okay. eventually though if nothing kept not happening the doc would induce it is very possible to be in labor before your water breaks, but this means if it is appearing that it isn't going to break on its own the doc will have to do it which is scary how some do it. my son came out with a scratch on the top of his head from it. the best tip i can give you is as soon as you feel that first contraction i would call your hubby and anyone else needed

Some things to help induce labor are walking, do some light cleaning, take a warm (not too warm) bath mainly to help you relax......I won't suggest sex, because of hubby not being there, it wouldn't do any good lol. I never had my water to break before labor. The Dr's had to break my water with all 3 of my pregnancies. Just try to find something to keep you busy, something to help pass this time for you. Get all the rest you can, your gonna need it!! I never had the bloody show with any of my kids. I knew when I lost the mucus plug tho. I think it differs with different women. Some women have bloody show and some don't. I hope this helps you some. Congrats and try to relax!! I wish you the best!!!

You probably won't see any bloody show if you've already lost your plug and are already 3cm.
As to when it will happen that can't be determined. You could go another 3 weeks. Probably not but it's possible.
Most water breaks after labor begins. They had to break my water with all 6 of my babies. One, they broke 1 min. before she was born. With some of my babies they broke my water to speed up labor, but I was already in labor. It's not safe to break the water to start labor, unless your ready for them to do a C-section if it doesn't start.
I know it's hard to wait, but that's about all you can do at this point. It will happen soon enough. I know it doesn't seem like it right now, but it will.

You can still be pregnant for up to 3 more weeks. You never know when the baby is coming unless u are induced. I never had bloody show I was always in labor and dr had to break my water all 4 times. I was pregnant for 41 1/2 weeks with my second daughter with the same signs as you, and still was induced. Just sit tight and relax I do not think you can plan this one. Congratulations

I lost my plug but didn't notice any bloody show (that I can remember anyway)... my bag of water didn't break on it's own (the doctor broke it when I was 8 centimeters dilated). You should have plenty of time after the contractions initially start to get hubby to you and get to the hospital. Being that it isn't your first labor it might be shorter but from your first tinges of contractions until actual birth would most likely be HOURS. Mine was 24 for my first and only. I walked a lot (not enough to make you too out of breath though... don't get your heart rate up too high)... stayed hydrated (important!)... and if you can have sex. The prostoglandins (sp?) in semen help to soften the cervix and some believe it brings on labor. Worked for me. Good luck.

i'm experienced almost 21 years and 4 pregnancies under my belt. my water never broke with any of my children. the doctor had to insert a HUGE instrument that suspiciously looked like a knitting needle to break my water...it didn't hurt a bit. i was 2 weeks late with my oldest, never had a bloody show. i had some terrible cramping comming 30 seconds apart. i was alone in the states, my husband was in the army in korea. i didn't know what to do. i called my sister at 5 am, and she screamed at me that i was not in labor, and i was timing my contractions all wrong. she proceeded to tell me that i better get a grip because i had at least 15 more hours to go. i panicked thinking i would die. finally convinced her to take me to the ER and my daughter came as soon as they put me on the table. just keep a bag packed and stay ready. babies come when they are ready. stay calm and best of luck!
you're not supposed to take a bath after you lost the mucus plug!!

For most women their water breaks after they've gone into labor. I was one whose water broke first though. Not all women have a bloody show. I know it's really uncomfortable at the end but it will be very soon now.

call your doctor and explain what you have put in this letter. he/she will tell you whether to go to the hospital. my doctor had to break my water when i was about 4 cm along. in your case, with the plug being out for a week and a half and being 3 cm dilated sounds as though you need attention NOW. best of luck
