Really sad isn't it. I remember when I was a kid, and going to gramas house, and everyone sitting down around a huge table every sunday and eating dinner. Now none of my family even get together for thanksgiving anymore.

Depends on how your family sets the mood and times for meals --

As a Long-Term Single Parent, I always had every other night as a time for MYSELF and MY children to sit down together for a meal -- and that was a regular part of our lives. The Family Dinner was ingrained in the way I and my siblings were raised -- we always ate at the same time as our parents, and we always had one meal cooked that every family member would eat -- no going out to pizza, no McDonalds -- just sitting down to a home-cooked meal.

Then ... after a short disaster of a marriage (and I Worked all the time I was married, which was a continuation of the career I started as a Single Young Woman) -- I HAD to fix meals at home NO MATTER HOW TIRED I WAS -- because the Divorce settlement to LEAVE such a horrid situation was very punishing financially -- but I was GLAD to pay it -- for I did not want to continue to tolerate his Abuse, his Violence, his Destruction and his rages -- along with the disappearances (and financial abuse too).

So fixing meals that we all sat down to eat was part of the way I stayed within budget, and the children enjoyed the time we did this.

Don't you celebrate any other holidays with your family? Christmas, New Years, Easter, July 4 for starters.

I'm not eating with my family. I am eating with my friends. They are much nicer and more entertaining!
