One such is the notion that the fires in the WTC buildings were not hot enough to cause the buildings to collapse, as the combustion temperature was less than the melting point of steel. But anyone who has ever watched a blacksmith adjust a horseshoe knows that steel loses its strength at a much lower temperature than its melting point.

I can think of several specific instances on specific shows, but in general............
On television - every car crash and every vehicle that drives off a cliff always ends in a huge, spectacular ball of fire - every time bomb has a large, red, digital read out that tells exactly how much time is left before it explodes - and, my favorite, the magic pistol that holds an unlimited amount of ammunition - at least until the commercial break, when the hero apparently reloads.
