Bush, his father, and friends have been in the oil business for decades. They are all in it for the money, and have a long history of stopping anything that is an alternative, the Rife Microscope for one. If it is not oil, coal, natural gas etc., you can bet Bush will do anything in his power to oppose it.

Solar power is definitely a source of energy for cars and homes. At this time many homes in the USA use solar power to supplement the power they receive from the power companies. However, solar power has its problems. It is not as efficient as power derived from oil or even coal. It also depends upon the weather. No sun. No power. The scientists of the world are all working on various sources of power which someday will replace oil. Hopefully it will be soon because oil is the cause of hatred and war.

Well, then we'd be having wars over the sun. I say just give it another millenium. j/k

Solar power isn't as reliable for several reasons. First of all you could have a cloudy day, which would mean less energy, and with global warming, more and more clouds appear because the ice caps are melting. Secondly, if science could figure out how to release the true energy of the sun... well, we'd blow up.... if you have a pen around just look at it, hold it in your hand. That is potential energy, stored energy if you will. If we could figure out how to release all the potential energy inside that pen, it would provide enough power for your family for generations. So, I feel as technology is advanced and these things are discovered, we will one day be able to survive on "solar" energy, but I think it will have a whole new meaning. I also, know that science has made discoveries for "free" energy. But, the patents have been bought or stolen and are being kept under wraps so "energy" companies can make their billions every year. Call it a conspiracy, but I know this one's right. Hopefully I will be alive to see a world free from oil dependancy.

Because in places like alaska it's dark six months out of the year. Everywhere else you have clouds and only 12 hours (give or take) to gather it. Then you have to store it.

It's expensive and not very effective. Do you drive a solar car to work? Do you even know anyone who sells solar cars? Probably not. You'd be going so slow you'd cause a traffic jam. Its just not as good as people lead you to think. Ethenol has potential though.

I think it all comes down to economics. Petroleum may not be the best way to fuel our cars, but it is the cheapest right now. Solar panels are still in their infancy and politics and the initial cost of solar panels scare people away from it. However, some communities have been using this and other forms of renewable energy for years. I think it all comes down to the consumer wanting the most for his money. A government department that promotes renewables has been around for many years and one of my old classmates works there and she told me it is still too expensive for the average consumer to make the investment in solar panels. So until we can convince more consumers to make that investment, we will still be using coal to heat our homes and petroleum to fuel our cars.

Solar energy would not work to sustain this nation!

Anybody ever hear of Occidental Petroleum Company?

Despite controversy over Dick Cheney's plans to keep stock options if elected, most Americans don't know that we already have a vice president with oil company stocks. Before the Elk Hills sale, Al Gore controlled between $250,000-$500,000 of Occidental stock (he is executor of a trust that he says goes only to his mother, but will revert to him upon her death). After the sale, Gore began disclosing between $500,000 and $1 million of his significantly more valuable stock.

Nowhere is Al Gore's environmental hypocrisy more glaring than when it comes to his relationship with Occidental. While on the one hand talking tough about his "big oil" opponents and waxing poetic about indigenous peoples in his 1992 book "Earth in the Balance," the Elk Hills sale and other deals show that money has always been more important to Al Gore than ideals.

Listen Bush doesn't run, he plods! Do dum, do dum, do dum.... Besides he doesnt give a rats a..s.s about pollution, check out his stand on Alaska, global warming; his enviro record stinks as bad as his human rights record. Remember when Gore first ran vs. him he warned that this imbecile was B A D for the environment and lo and beold, the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

Because this isn't the USSR and he isn't going to send out the secret police to force everyone to discard the use of fossil fuels or die. Bush can't decide to run on solar power and then make it so; he doesn't have that power.

Bush do not want the solar power because his oil business will become bankrupt.

solar power kinda relies on the sun...something we dont have all the time....back up with wind power and you might be able to run a small town but not nearly enough engery would be produced by either of these methods....plus the president really doesnt have that kind of power to say okay thats it no more oil.
