I had an umbilical hernia, and had surgery to repair it. I asked my
doc if it was a little thing, then he could do it. But if it was a big
deal I didn't want it done. ( I was also having my gallbladder taken
out). He said it was a small thing. He LIED. I have about 12 staples inside me, spread out. PLEASE get a second opinion
if your doc recommends surgery while pregnant. Even a third
opinion. Just don't tell them to much info...let them tell you. And
from there you can make a better decision. Some doctors just
want to make more money. Be careful with this pregnancy..
Take Care.

My wife had a hernia when she was pregnant and had the surgery to repair it a year later. My son was born 12 lbs and her abdominal wall was so week they put a piece of mess inside her and stapled it. This caused SEVER pain after the surgery. It was suppose to be sewn in but the doctor stapled it in and she came out of surgery 1 hour early. Lazy doctor??? We can't get an answer. Her recovery was over a month to get out of bed. It was very painful. A minor hernia isn't as bad.

depends on where the hernia is and how bad. Usually it's a minor surgery in which the "insides" are placed back inside and the hole is repaired either by simply putting in a few stitches or by placing a small mesh patch over the area to help reinforce things.

I had one for four years and I lived very normaly with it bothering me ounce in awhile then I had surgery and couldn't lift over 8 pounds for 6 weeks the first few days after the surgery I was extremely sore but after that I was tired of not being able to workout or do anything that had to do with lifting (however: I was in really good shape and did not have to get the plastic mesh sewn into my muscle so I did not have to worry about my body rejecting it so that might effect your outcome if your muscle tissues aren't strong enough to be sewn together)

Hernia surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her Hernia and Gall bladder surgery in India by the company called Forerunners Healthcare .The Price for the surgery she paid in India was very less. She paid 30% of the cost she was quoted in America.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. They arrange Gall bladder, Appendix and Laparoscopy surgery for foreigners in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as Hernia, Gall bladder, appendix and other minimal invasive surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.
