Bear with me, this may be too much or too complex to explain, but I'll try: In '97, Em was putting out flyers for the release of the Slim Shady EP. These flyers stated the possible appearance of ICP at the release party. At some point, Violent J heard of this, and asked Em why they said this, because Em had never approached ICP to perform at the party. Em took the opportunity to ask J at this point if ICP would appear. J replied with a pretty definite no, and got pissed because Em had never asked ICP's permission to use their names in his flyer, basically saying "F**k you" to Em's face. Now Em was pissed and started dissing ICP in interviews. So yeah, I agree, they didn't do anything to provoke him. As an Eminem fan, this is an aspect of his past I'm not proud of.
