As a younger player I used to set very specific goals, but at times I felt this put me under extra pressure. I now have many short-term goals. For example, when I went out to bat today (first day of the First Test) my first goal was to get to lunch. To do this I had an even more specific plan: to get my weight forward in my stance and then see the seam of the ball as it was released from the bowler’s hand. I find now that if I have specific short-term goals or routines then the runs will look after themselves and I will do a great job for the team.
