Seriously, the dorm laudry room is a great resource. I did learn when younger that if you put the lint in paper egg cartons and then pour wax over the top of each cup of lint, then breaking it apart, it made a great fire starter. What else is something useful that lint could be used for?

well, where I live they have started a "green bin" program for anything that can be composted. Among many other things I never thought of putting in my personal compost bin before this program dryer lint is included in the list of things that can go in. That is what I do with mine now, that is when I decide to round it up off the basement floor.

I don't know about anyone else but I would say that composting is a useful thing to do with lint.

Birds use it to make nests. There are lint holders on the market that look kind of like bird feeders. The birds can perch on it, pull the lint out and be on their way. I think this is a great use for lint.

I have seen collages and sculptures made out of it in. You know how the lint can be different colors depending on what was in the load of clothes. You can tear it in shapes and stick it to a board and create a picture. Add some other interesting textile objects to it, yarn string whatever, Frame it under glass.

it makes great stuffing for dolls. My ex-wife make a rabbit doll and left the top of the body just underneath the head open and we put dryer lint in that for 3 years. When it was full, we sealed it and the kids had a "dust bunny" to play with

firestarter and birdsnest are about the two best things lint is useful for. I wouldn't recommend using it to pack wounds as most or ALL first aid bandages are lint free so the lint doesn't infect the wound. Lint is the deterioration of your clothing...sounds wonderful doesn't it?

In keeping with the power-outage theme ; If you're leaving your home for while, say a week, put an ice-cube in a zip-top bag in the freezer. When you get home, check it's shape. If it is flattened or mishaped, it means there was a power-outage while you were gone, all the food in the freezer defrosted then refroze when the power came back out ; you need to throw it out or you risk food poisoning !!! Also, the back of a spoon (not a knife) is what works best to spread peanut butter on soft fresh bread that tears easily !

If you're a nuture lover, you can take it and bring it to a wooded section of the campus and let the birds, squirrels an mice use it, as they are now making nests for the winter season.

That is the next great invention, and I have been working on it for years. I am even saving the lint I find in my belly button.
