a preposition (pre as in like before not the part of grammar like according to or in) means in this context that it is a leading factor(s) for becoming ill.

I think you have the wrong word..
Maybe you mean predisposition - which means a condition that exists beforehand that makes something (getting sick) more likely to happen)

Maybe you mean euphemism- which is a nicer way of saying something...
