If you tip a recliner to its side and look underneath, you can
see some of the frame. I've seen both hard wood and fiber-
board frames (I prefer wood over metal). Are there any
differences in quality, durability, etc., between recliner frames
that use these materials?

Yes there is a BIG difference. Fiberboard (MDF=Medium Density Fiber Board) does not have much strength for support or repeated movement. And water or a spill (Liquids in general) will destroy Fiber Board.

Real wood can't be beat for strength or resistance to wear.

It will cost a bit more but it is well worth it!

Good Luck!

MOST DEFINATELY===Go with the hardwood--the glues in fiberboard break down and fiberboard cannot handle weight or stress nearly as well as hardwood. You will never find a piece of fiberboard furniture in an antique store or passed down from generation to generation.

Generally, hard wood frames are going to be stronger than fiberboard. Some laminated woods are quite strong, but regular fiberboard is usually weaker.

fiberboard is ground up hard wood and soft wood. the strain on the material from the screws and bolts will eventually cause it to fail. But, look on the bright side, you might be dead before it happens and won't care.

Hard wood recliners are best.Stronger and will last alot longer. Most likely more expensive. What ever you like, most dont last that long or you get tired of them before they wear out.
