Is it better to choose your friends based on the way they make you feel? Or is it smarter to pick friends based on what they can do for you? How should you go about making these friends? A family member sometimes makes me feel like I am not smart, because I don't choose friends based on what they can do for me. Sometimes it happens that my friends can do something for me, but I make friends with people based on how I feel about them. Today, it was made clear to me that I've been doing it wrong all my life. I wondered how prevalent this belief is that you make friends with only people who can do things for you.

Thank you for your sweet answer and kind words to me. You should never think about what others can do for you. I don't believe that you feel that way. You are like me, a giver. You deserve beautiful people to surround and care for you, but if you are like me you meet mainly takers. That is rough. I don't know what you have been through tonight but don't let anyone ruin all the good in you. You can e-mail me anytime you would like to talk, or just vent.

I have friends that come from all different places. I could not be around dumb people that do everything i ask. I have friends that are intelligent (each in their own unique way), friendly, respectful.
That family member of yours is selfish and ignorant, don`t follow their example. They are using people and that will come back to bite them in the *** sooner or later.
Be yourself, and let people choose YOU to be their friend!

I choose my friends from the moment i taught myself on what is the meaning of a friend, I choose my friends wisely now not because I am getting the hang of who is my true friends and those toxic friends. my whole family don't mind which friends I have, as long I know myself who i want to send more time with and those who i am not willing to waste my time with

i think someone who will be loyal and that you can trust and be serious about stuff, as well as have tonnns of fun together is the best friend to have. friends who make you feel better are better to have for your self esteem and happiness than friends who just offer stuff in the long run in my point of view

I say that you'll know who your real friends are once you go through something real traumatic. IF they are there after that, then they are your friends.
