Will you tip me really, really well because I HAVE to work on this holiday?
I have NO choice, I must be there to work it.
Will you have compassion??
Do you care that my 2 kids are elsewhere, seperated, because I am stuck at work?
Do you (the customer) really give a hoot?
If I make really good money at least I'll have THAT to say at the end of the day.
No family stories, memories to go along with it. Just work.
That totally SUCKS for me and mine.
I have had the last 2 T-days off,
so I really can't complain,
and I love my job and my co-workers.
I'm just wondering if the general public really thinks about this stuff.
I don't like being away from my kid's on this big family holiday.

I'm not looking for pity or complaining, as I said....I'm just curious how the general public views this.
I know that it comes with the terrritory. I've been doing this for 20 years, for God's sake.

And even though I have to work the holiday, I probably make more (by the hour) than all of you negative people out there. Gobble, gobble.

I am grateful that people work on Thanksgiving because I don't cook. Thank You or my kids would eat burnt food this holiday.

If I were you I would just call in sick for the day. Family is really more important than a day serving ungrateful pricks who wont tip you more than a buck or two for your hard work. Holidays are only once a year, your job will be there tomorrow and the day after. The're not going to fire you for being sick and they cant expect you to go to the doctors office on a holiday to get an excuse because most doctor's offices are closed onThanksgiving, it's a federal holiday. Put some water up your nose so you'll have the sniffs they call in.........................

LOL Sounds like I'm a pro at this doesnt it? I've never called in sick like this but if it came down to it I would so I could spend the day with my family.

You should do the same thing.............

Yep, if I run into you on a holiday, or a Sunday, or late at night, you'll hear me thank you for being there. You've gotta screw up not to get 20% (rounded UP to the nearest $1 or $5) from me.

And don't apologize if the service is slow, or you screwed something up - that puts the burden on me to support you in the problem, which AIN'T my problem. Let's all just work with what we've got, and don't make me say, "Awww, that's OK, I can drink the unsweetened tea."

Beyond that, I'm a waitresses dream. Biggest tip I ever left? Well, it was a LOT. Christmas eve.

Thanks for being there for us.

If it means that much to you, then you should get a job at a company that's closed on holidays. I mean...what's your solution - do you want all restaurants to be closed on a holiday that revolves around eating? I'm not trying to be nasty by any means - but if you work at a restaurant....working holidays comes with the territory!

Maybe instead of having a traditional thanksgiving, you can pick a special day that will be a time for you and your kids to have a great meal anyway. I'm sure it would mean a lot to them, and it would be special because it's unique to you and your family!

I never had to worry about tipping until i immigrated to the US. The system is much fairer in Germany, the tip is added to your bill and in 1962 it was ten percent of the bill, it is probably much more now. I always tip well, but the service has to be good, do not serve me salad with a bug on it, this has happened to me and I lost my appetite and paid for my Coffee and left. Look at the food before you serve it, make sure the silverware is clean and the food is presentable, i know that you do not cook the food, but you need to be vigilant and communicate with the kitchen. 99% of the time I have great food and service and I tip well, the one percent i like to forget about. Hope you get lots of big tips and do well, i know how hard you have to work. Good Luck.

If I went out to eat on Thanksgiving with my family, I would probably tip more than usual because I would feel bad that someone has to work on that day, or any holiday. It is really hard not to be able to enjoy being with your little ones on any day.

ABSOLUTELY, my friend! I always think of the day, time (very early morning, all night diners, holidays, Sundays, etc.) and try to be a little more considerate and tip a little better, although I nearly always tip well . . . a waitress has to be really horrific for me to not leave at least 15%. I do, however, tend to tip much higher percentage-wise in cheaper places . . . a $2. tip, for example, on a 99 cent breakfast special . . . she's working just as hard filling your coffee cup as if it were a $10. breakfast!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you and yours!

Most people are self centered aholes who think only of themselves. I think that employers who open on holidays should pay double time. I am lucky even though I am a fast food worker I get Thanksgiving and Christmas off with pay. Just make sure your kids know you love them and you are doing this for them.

As I see it, the day of the year doesn't matter when it comes to rather or not I will tip well or not, the friendliness and service does. When at an establishment where I am waited on by employees who depend (somewhat) on tips, if that person is friendly, respectful, and professional, then yes, I try to tip well (within my budget of course) but, if that person is rude, they are not going to get a dime from me.

I usually leave 15%+...even if the food isn't great coz I know thats not the servers fault...even if i think the service could be better as well coz no ones perfect but we all have bills to pay...just bring the plates out and you got 15+ from me...this I guarantee...
