There was a guy named J L King who wrote a book called "On the Down Low" (it was one of Oprah's books and it's a bestseller). He claimed that a lot of married men are secretly bisexual.

Do you think that's really true?

I think it might have been more true years ago when it was absolute taboo to admit homosexuality.

The world has come a long way with tolerance and acceptance so I think today's gays are less likely to marry just to "fit in" with the social norm.

The world still has a long way to go too. Even though there are religious and moral arguments, we should judge each other by how people act on their feet not what they do between the sheets!

I am not gay but feel someones sexuality is personal - no one seems to care how often or in what position I have sex with my husband so why the double standards???

I had a therapist tell me about 20 years ago that we are all bisexual; however, we either lean towards one gender or the other and then there are those that have relationships with both.

There are men and women on the DL -- so lets not get hung up on the fellas being the only ones on the DL.

Married men aren't secretly bisexual -- they are gay and only have sex with their wives to fulfill a sexual duty. Back in the early 90s men identified themselves as men having sex with men -- meaning the relationships were totally sexual without any emotional connections. Men are in the closest because of the stigmas associated with being in a same-sex relationship. Some are so deep in the closest you need a block of C-4 to get them out.

I think its true. I really don't have a problem though with a man being bisexual, rather my husband or not. But for me tell me that you are attracted to men too. So that I don't come home and find another man sucking you off or something. Not to mention, I wouldn't be stupid enough to marry a bisexual guy, knowing that he needs to be with a man every so often. I'm not going to try and change anyone from what they are meant to be. Be ridiculous. So I say if you are married and on the Down Low, you really do need to talk to your wife about it, because bringing aids home is not the smartest thing to do.

There have been plenty of articles on this recently. The problem with the down low society is that HIV/Aids has become an epidemic within this group. Many of these people who are married are now giving HIV to their wives. It has become a major problem which has gotten some media attention due to HIV spread among African-American marriages.

I do believe this, and I read the book. It's quite taboo in the black community for a Black man to be gay or (God forbid!!) bisexual. For this reason, (among many others) Black men who have these feelings and are afraid to display them put up the facade of being straight, even to the point of marriage and having families, but, continue to pursue their homosexual fantasies, relationships outside of the marriage. Scary. I really can't speak on the perspectives of gay men of other races.

yes, many more than suspect. Here in OC, CA...I know what I am talking about...many, many, many married guys slip around descretely now and then to get what they cannot get at home. No one is the wiser. No big deal. No one is hurt. Yes, probably fully 40% of married men, now and then, play around, espeically over 40-45. I suspect they are bored at home, tired of fighting the urge, and want to see what the hell life is ALL about before they give it up. It may not be for all, but many try at least once. Then again, many come back for seconds.
