Nope, you shouldn't. But just to be safe, whenever I have done this, I always back up important data. As a matter of fact, since there is such a high rate of disk failure, its always good practice to back up your important files.

It depends on the type on re install you do. There is a repair reinstall overwrites system files in an attempt to fix corrupted files etc. The other type is a full or clean re install. This reformats your hard drive and wipes EVERYTHING from your drive.

If u recover XP with WIN XP CD then nothing will loose.. But if u want to load a fresh copy of that then everything will be deleted..

reinstalling your OS will erase any data from th hard drive, then restore the settings and programs to factory settings. So yes, it will erase all of your files and data and you will have to restart all over.
