There are many reasons why a man or woman gets pierced/tattooed. This seems to be a sexist question. Why question why do WOMEN get tattoos and piercings?
Some PEOPLE choose it as a means of adornment. This ranges in desire/values from purely decorative to shocking in nature. It is a choice. The range of acceptance differs, so will the range of what those who want to "shock" will "wear" as well.
Tattooing and piercing have gone quite mainstream so a brow or tongue piercing twenty years ago would illicit more 'shock value' than it does today. People have resorted to implants and other extreme means of body modification for that now.
We get many women in the shop who are getting tattoos as GIFTS for their husbands - I am talking 25th wedding anniversary presents, so this is not just for the youth of our society.
Many tattoos are thought out well in advance and have a very special spiritual meaning. Let's face it, if everyone liked tweed jackets and hush puppies, look how boring it would be!
Hair color has gone extreme, even with men. It is so much fun now, even in conservative environments, people are loosening up and becoming more tolerant.

I'm a woman and don't really understand it either. My step-niece and her girlfriend plus my brother has several tattoos. The girlfriend has tattoos that are not completed so she goes back to the artist on occasion to continue the tattoo. They are intriquing though. So when I see them tomorrow I'll be interested to see if she finally has the tattoos completed.
As for piercings--ewww. I don't wear jewelry at all except for a watch and a medic alert bracelet. And the weird places that are pierced, oh my word! Ears I can understand, but lips, noses, eyebrows, tongues, and even very private places is just too much for me.
I can only guess that women think it's cool and attractive, especially teenagers do it maybe because of peer pressure and they may think it's going to attract a guy.
When I see a young person with several piecerings I find myself watching them and it's not because I'm looking down on them. It's not that. I'm just wondering, "why."
It is a "me" generation. I don't know. Oh well. jmho.

They get piercings and tattoos because they enjoy it, they like how it looks. When it comes down to it, what's important is if she's happy with herself. Also, some guys go for that. I'm going to get a tattoo someday because the symbol hold a deep personal significance for me and I want to wear it with me forever. Also, it's a handy identification tool should I (heaven forbid) turn up missing.

I don't like them at all, except for the basic ones I have on my ears. They are going to look all nasty and gross when the girl gets old and there's really nothing very attractive or lady like about having ink and metal all over your body. How will you look in a formal gown, on a job interview, or a business lunch? No thanks, not for me.

Well I have 5 earrings in each ear because I like the way it looks. And they are tiny little gold balls and birthstones, no dangly hoops or such. I have 4 tattoos and they are symmetrical hehe. One on each shoulder and one on each lower leg. Why? They were all impulsive, so I have no idea why they're there.

i have a tatoo of a rose with two banners, one for my grandmother and one for my aunt whom both passed away within 2 years of each other, i got the tatto becuz i want it to be my profession becuz i love art and forever being able to immortilize somethign on ur own canvas of a body is just a cool idea, i knw i will have it forever, but it means alot to me and has signifigance, i plan to get more but only ones that mean things, most women today get them to show strenthg that woman can go roar and wear pants, otherwise they are just cool but some people are idiots and get lower back tattoos of tribal signs anf random things, i got one to liek help me remeber my grandma and my aunt who i loved so much and losing them really hurt me, a tattoo is as permanent as my love for both of them, as far as it being a turn off for u i love men who have them becuz it shows balls, same dealy as with women who have them, and i love art so i can actually apreciate tattoos are art as well as signifigant meanings

I find tattoos to be really disgusting, and would not date anyone with one. Too many piercings are pretty bad, too. I guess it was my debutante upbringing. I find that both are low-class and trashy.
