99%. I have been practicing in both the public and private sector for 8 years, and most lawyers are generally honest. I can only think of one (of many thousands) with whom I have dealt that I would consider dishonest. I don't know where that perception comes from. It's undeserved.

I would trust a lawyer before I would trust a real estate broker (the least trustworthy and most self interested people in the world, in my opinion), some doctors, all dentists (all the one I know are at least a little bit nuts), and even some priests.

Well, it depends on what you mean by honest. Legally they can not be dishonest with their clients or potential clients. It is also illegal for them to be dishonest in court or any legal proceeding. I don't know what the actual percentage of honesty is but it is probably pretty high given these to factors. However if by honest you mean not sneaky or clever then the percentage would be lower. Most people though, consider sneakiness and cleverness a good thing in a lawyer, if of course he or she is their lawyer.

I've practiced for twelve years, and have only run across one I didn't consider honest.

I've run across a lot of potential clients I wouldn't accept because I didn't think they were going to listen to anything I said that didn't amount to "I promise you a HUGGGGEEEEE verdict", which meant if I took the case, I would ultimately be a dishonest lawyer in their eyes if they didn't get it.
