My mom does it to me incessantly, always calling me fat and telling fat jokes (no, she's not kidding). Don't just say "ignore her", because that really doesn't work. I'm really uptight about weight, even though I'm pretty in shape, I work out regularly and eat healthy, so it really bothers me. Any ideas as to how to get her to back off and leave it alone?

My mom did it to me and now I'm a size 1.
Try throwing it back at her and pick at her flaws.

Just tell her how you are feeling about the jokes. Your mom is your most intimate friend in the world. I don't think she's doing it intentionally- sometimes all of us do some mistakes unwillingly- not being conscious enough how others react on those. I'm a mother of 7 month-old and I don't think I can hurt my baby purposely ever. If it bothers you it's good to let her know soon.

Tell her it hurts your feelings. Tell her, "I really understand what you are trying to do, but it doesn't work for me." Tell her that by dishonoring you, she is dishonoring herself . Come out with ideas how the both of you can improve on overall health. Since this has been such a bad habit, tell her to put a dollar(a quarter will do) in a jar for every time she says something about being fat.Use the money to get you a new blouse, movie, or whatever is your thing. Funny thing is that my mother who is 5 ' 2" tall and weighs 210 pounds does the same thing to me and others!!!! She has since stopped but it wasn't easy.

You don't say how old you are and whether you live at home or not. Tell her that the fat jokes and comments are hurting your feelings and are counterproductive. Tell her that if she wants to help to keep healthy snacks in the house and nothing that will tempt you. Tell her you need an exercise buddy, her.

You have three options:
1. Explain to her how you feel and request that she may try empathising with you
2. Point out that diet and exercise can only get you so far - the rest comes down to genetics, yours happen to have been 50% contributed from her
3 Failing all else, crack out the old jokes

She sounds like the president of the Rude Insensitive Moms of America (RIMA) organization. Ghheeesh! I hate disrespect but maybe you can find HER button and push, not to be petty, but so she can get why you're hurt by her actions. No disrespect, but that is so dumb and ignorant of her. Is she obsessed with weight? I'll tell you one thing: prayer changes things. Try praying for her. God will work it out for your good and peace.

She feels threatened by you and is insecure about herself, she masks her flaws by putting other people, especially her own child down. There is not much you can do, your mother may be a toxic personality, you may want to tell her unless she shows some respect for you and stop belittling you, you may be forced to break off all contact. Good Luck.

Your momma is so old instead of breast milk she gives breast yogurt. Your momma is so dumb she returned a puzzle because she thought it was broken. Your momma is so fat when a school bus drives by she says stop that twinkie. Your momma is so fat she takes up 4 pages of her highschool yearbook.
