I'd like it only to do word processing, and it doesn't need anything fancy, but I would appreciate enough power to play Maplestory and that's about it. surfing too I guess. it'll be used for writing and researching, that's about it...

Also I'm wondering, do laptops always come with their own mice and battery re-charger?

You might want to check the sale flyers in the newspapers tomorrow, Thanksgiving Day. Lots of retail stores will be selling drastically reduced computers the following day, but more than likely it'll mean you will have to get in line at the store of your choice WAY early in the morning. Most doors will be opening up at 5 or 6AM and there'll be a long line for a limited number of sale computers. Figure on getting in line no later than 3 in the morning to assure yourself of being early enough to get what you want. Good luck.

Frys electronics might have a cheap computer for up to maybe $600. Look for the Laptop kind called "Great Quality".

I'd say Dell, but 400.00 is kind of pushing it. Even for just what you want it for.
Labtop, no mouse, way to much extra ( compared to a store )
But charger? Yes
