I grew up in norcal, but have lived in socal for 9 years. I've visited SF many times over the years. I personally feel that SF is much prettier and more convenient than LA, but at the same time, people in SF seem much more uptight, arrogant, introverted and overly proud. I can say that LA is superficial and very spread out, but the people seem generally more open, outgoing and fun than SF people. What's your opinion and why?

I've done the reverse- grew up in socal but now have lived up in norcal for 15+ years. Funny thing is that I think the opposite, which is norcal people seem friendlier and warmer. I think socal folks tend to less approachable, and maybe that's result of there being so many more people in such a larger place. I think it's true though that SF folks are prouder of being from SF, and LA folks are more like whatever.

I had been in both places. Definitely, San Francisco is more beautiful. However, cost of living here is higher. This is probably one of the reason why people here are not friendly because they are always in a hurry to make a living to meet both ends. However, it is always quite unfair to generalize people. I had stayed with a good friend & I tell you he is more better than my relatives. People here usually dont bring their cars downtown because parking is hard & expensive. Muni buses are everywhere & you can transfer rides within time frame for free. BART makes travelling accessible to the nearby CONTRA COSTA COUNTY.
LA is a much busier place however, cost of living is slightly lower than San Francisco. Tax in San Francisco is 8.5% The highest so far in the whole of California. I think people in San Francisco are more formal when then dress up unlike in LA where you can just wear jeans. Downtown San Francisco is the business district. While LA is a mixture of everything. Commercial & residential are spread out.

Born and raised north.. lived 4 years in the south(Santa Ana, Anaheim and Tustin). The south has nicer weather (cept when it rains the streets flood), more to do but we lived in the area 2 years before we found out there there were hills east of us the air is so thick you can cut it with a knife. At least it doesn't flood as bad in the north and the trees are more varied.
People are nice if your nice.. and people are snobby in both places. I prefer somewhere in the middle like ah.. Sonora ;-)

I grew up in L.A. so I have a love for the place. I currently live in San Francisco and I have noticed that my attitude towards people have changed. I realized, espcially on a recent road trip of the entire East Coast, that I'm not as nice anymore to people. I believe that having lived in a densely populated city, like San Francisco and of course to a greater extent New York City, it all has to do with space. We have very little so we do not want you in it. Its not a personal think against the person visiting its a personal thing for yourself. But, I am trying to be nicer, regain my L.A. thought patterns, but so long as I live in San Francisco, I just want to have a little space.

Well, I think that the people are nicer in SF, but that's probably only because I've been there more.
One bad thing about both cities: LA has really bad pollution.
SF is always having this foggy/gloomy weather.

My boyfriend and I have lived our whole life in Southern California and living in Northern California now we have noticed the people here are much nicer. People here are much more laid back and friendlier definitely. We honestly will never move back to Southern California cause we both feel Northern California has much more beautiful places to visit and there is alot more to do here. So yeah people are much more open here and very nice

I lived up in Yuba City/Marysville and often found myself traveling to SF rather than LA. SF is beautiful and there's so much to see and learn there. I agree with you when you say LA is superficial.

I think that people as a whole are more open-minded and less judgemental in San Francisco. You can get a lot of the snobby types living in LA.
