I just had somebody give me a 79 chevy truck, it has been sitting since august, and he got it with no keys, so what im going to do is unhook the shifter from the tranny so move it, but anyway right now there is some wires hanging out around the ingnition, which ones do i need to touch together or wire together and touch to hotwire it?

Run a wire to the positive side of the coil and then jumper the starter solenoid (easiest way to jumper is with 2 screwdrivers). To turn it off, pull the wire off the coil.

Be careful about doing any hot-wiring because if someone would see that the wires were dangling they might call the cops. You would then have to prove clear ownership and everything. I hope you got a clear title and bill of sale even if it was given to you.
Anyway I don't know which to touch but maybe someone else can help you with that part. Just keep my advice in mind for the rest.

the wires that start the truck are at the base of the stering column not at the top haning out I think you can get the tumbler out of the column on gms by taking off the wheel and a few parts and change out to a new key

Somthin' smells funny about all this. They got it with no keys? Does the title check out? Write down the vin # and take it to the police station and have em run it You get caught witha stolen car it's 3-5 in the pen

get it keyed its not that expensive. just yank the steering column out which isn't hard to do and drop it off at a lock smith. Ive done it before its pretty basic and simple proceedure
