I am going to start buying presents for Christmas soon and I was wondering what I should get a teacher that I am really close to for Christmas? We are really close and I want it to be something that will be special for her and I want it to be something she will always have and remember. Please no rude comments, I mean close as in friendship and she is my mentor not any other way so please don't take it that way. Thank you for the help and suggestions. Happy Thanksgiving

If this helps she is young like late 20s to early 30s and she a girly-girl. I don't have too much of a limit on the price but I want it to be something nice, practical and that won't be weird when I give it to her.

I have total respect that you are very close to your teacher since I am close to my teacher as well! I think you should get her a gift that 1) that you can afford and 2) That is unique and beautiful. For example, you could buy her a mini statue (with 2 doves) or a beautiful bracelet. These are just suggestions, so I hoped this helped you at least a little bit and gave you some ideas!
Happy Thanksgiving to you, too!

I am a teacher, and I think back on the gifts I have received from students. Normally, I would suggest a gift card, but you said that you wanted her to have something that will last.
I caution you about purchasing perfume or candles. Many people are allergic to scents. If she or one of her students is, the gift will never be used in the classroom.
One other thing--keep the cost of your gift low--under $25. Otherwise, the teacher may feel (or be) obligated to refuse the gift for fear of appearing to be beholden to you. Check with the office at your school to see if there are any requirements as far as gifts to the teacher. I have worked in schools where we were not permitted to accept gifts over a certain value.
Overall, my favorite gifts from students are homemade. One of my all-time favorites is a document made by a 2nd-grade student of mine using the paint program in the school's computer lab. It said that she liked me because I helped her with her spelling, and had her name on it. It is one of my prized possessions.
If you want something that will make her remember you always, look around her room. What basic items does she lack? A personalized nameplate or a perpetual calendar can be highly appreciated and well-used. So could a nice pen, especially one attached to a lanyard or carabiner, or a 4-color pen. I can never keep enough of those! Other ideas are chalk holders, mouse pads, a carpal tunnel cushion for below the keyboard, or an up-to-date globe or dictionary/thesaurus set. (the map in my room still has the USSR!)
Look in a teacher supply store or an office supply store. You'd be surprised what kind of gift ideas you can find for a teacher there. Also, does she have a particular love of something? Consider a contribution in her name to a charity that you know she likes. The possibilities are endless!

Not to sound cheesey, but something from the heart.
If you're close, you know what things she's interested in, and you have a sense of her 'style'.
Personally, I (a teacher) have received a variety of gifts, and I keep most of them. The ones I give away are the ones that are bulky or very impractical.
The ones I like most are simple pieces of jewelry or 'decoration'. A girl made me a beaded bracelet 3 years ago. It's not gorgeous or flambouyant, it's cheap little beads on a wire. One student brought me a little calendar from italy with pictures on it - it's on my wall behind my desk, and I can justify keeping it b/c of the pictures. Neither gift was more than $1.
If she wears her hair up, maybe pretty hair pins or a hair clip, if she loves to write- a nice journal, if she likes to cook- an apron, if she's a reader, find a good classic you think she'll love - or a coffee table book about the city or people she loves...

How old is the teacher? And what are her interests? A nice pen is a good gift. Or a special book for a journal - many teachers I know keep a journal. Large book stores usually have very nice ones.

I think that a PDA would be a nice present. It's something she could use for personal or work reasons and she'd think of you whenever she looked at it. It isn't a romantic type gift, so I don't think that there would be any misunderstanding.
