How do you beat the Grim Reaper in Castlevania 1 for NES?

I made it to the Grim Reaper in CV1 for NES. I can't seem to beat that damn Grim Reaper. What's the trick in beating him?

The trick to beating the Grim Reaper is to just keep that whip going and jump and avoid his attacks. Eventually, you'll beat the Grim Reaper, but it takes a million and a half tries before you're successful.
