What would you do with the time left if you did know the date?

No, because part of the joy of life is never knowing exactly what might happen next--we may be destroyed by an asteroid as I type this, for example. Knowing the date of my death would create an absolute in an otherwise fairly random chain of events.

And besides, even if I knew, it probably wouldn't happen exactly at that point anyway. I've always procrastinated on my deadlines.

No, with some exceptions! If I were going to die in a week or month I would want to know. That's such a short time and if I knew I only had a week I would make sure I had as much fun as possible. It also depends on whether I know how I'm going to die.

I would like to know, as I would be ready and already have accepted it by then. Also, you could live those days as your best. Though, this question also brings up fate and destiny, which can be debatably accepted by different minds. If you are fated to die on a certain day, some might want to know as they might believe that you could make your life more fulfilled or even change your death, though some might stick to the side of 'ignorance is bliss'.

No way!

When my 21 year old son died four years ago I had a thought with a brief visual of the fact that life would of been different if he were born with an expiration date tagged on his little baby foot.

I wouldn't of wanted to know his death date and I don't want to know mine.

Each day is to be lived well and treasured. If we knew our death date we would either try too hard or stop trying. It would throw us off

I would!!! If it was, say, in a year, i would: drop out of college, go travel around the world, have random sex with random people, write that novel i always put up, go bungee-jumping and paragliding (because i would actually know for sure that i won't die in a freak accident), go conquer mount Everest, live for a month on a desert island ; P I would probably also detach myself from my family...

Never.

Suppose you are told it's not only today but ten minutes from now. Unbeknownst to you, a truck is about to crash thru your living roomwall and crush you. All you know is you are going to die in the next ten minutes.

There's not much I can between now and then other than to tell my wife I love her.

You should live each day with honesty like it is your last day.

i would not want to know the day i die. Because, for my remaining seconds/hours/days/weeks/months/years i would have left, it would be absolute paranoia and unpleasentness. If i had say 30 years left, i'd still live a normal life like i do now, but, say i had a few months, i'd spend alot of time with my family - it would be terrible to not say goodbye, right?

To the answers who say "they would want to know so they could do what they want and wouldn't die" WRONG. we are all destined to die from natural causes, but do we all? it's called accidents.

Oh my gosh! yes! have you seen Big Fish? well in that movie, the main character knows how and when he's going to die so he doesnt worry about it throughout his life. and i think that i would like to know for the same reason, so that i could know that i could do whatever i want, no matter what it was, and i wouldnt die from it.

I will not want to know the date! It will add on unnecessary worry, among the many that I have ;-) Live everyday as if it can be your last, live it to the best; that's a better option.

Having a definite date on the end of my existence would only bring about one recurring thought in my mind: why wait?
