Do people actuallyuse the day to thank God or is just an excuse to eat lots of turkey? Is that call a Dinner orgy?

i think it glorifies how badly the Native Americans were treated. "Hi, thanks for sharing, we want your land so here, have some smallpox!" but when i bring this up everyone gets SO mad at me.....and it stays around not so much for turkey eating but because it's so commercialized, it is a big shopping season so its good for the economy
