If you are thinking about using a good sick day excuse for Friday and you are paid for Thursday, think again. Many companies have the policy that you must work the day before and after the holiday to be paid for it. If your question is not relating to that day and you have sick time coming then how about, "gee, I am sick and won't be in today." That usually works for me.

Chronic Back Pain or Migranies.
Neither can be disproved. My ex used to use that excuse to get out of work, she was devious enough to leave half empty migrance medicine bottles at her office.

Go to work and don't lie about.
And don't lie about being sick either.
Your fibs will find you out. Hopefully
