i guess the question really is does this do any good for the enviroment?..i live in iowa and the 5 cent deposit has been in effect for about 25 years..there is a few other states that have it also..where are facts and figures saying this has been a good idea...if it has helped the enviroment, why haven't eviromentalist's filed suit to make it mandatory in the other states?..if this whole thing is a sham, why do the few states still do it?

In my county in Maryland, we have recycling of glass, plastic, and mixed paper with weekly pickup at our houses. There seems to be widespread participation and it's much more convenient than lugging your bottles back to the store.

I live in Michigan and the deposit law is 10 cents. I think that all you have to do is walk down the road and see how clean it is to know if the law is doing any good. I picked up 5 bottles and cans today and made 50 cents, but the point is if they wasn't worth anything they would still be there. I am not to proud to pick them up. Stupid people will always litter but if it worth something there are others that will pick them up and turn them in for the money.

Here in Michigan we have a 10 cent deposit law and it has helped a lot with littering and all recycling is good. I don't know why more states don't follow suit.

Most places do recycling now, so whatever. Anyway, it's all bull. Recycling doesn't help the environment. In fact, remember "Superfund," the money that went to clean up hazardous waste sites? Out of the top 50 worst sites, THIRTEEN turned out to be former recycling facilities. we're better off putting cans and bottles in landfills, they don't bother anything there.

Hell, if you make it mandatory for stores to pay 5 cents for each can or bottle, what will happen to all the people out hustling for bottles and cans and taking them to the recycler?
