OH gosh...you are better off running for your life...ants will usually build a colony somewhere...carpenter ants the big black ones...are almost impossible...it took me 6 months to get rid of them last year but they are gone now and have never come back. You have to get to the queen and who knows where they are in your walls...they chew threw wood and make a nest somewhere in there. I finally got the secret that did it...BORAX. I would mix it with sugar and leave little heaps of it where I knew they would come. They take it to the queen. You have to kill the queen or you never get rid of them. Buy a box of borax in the laundry section. Sprinkle it all round the perimeters of the hosue outside and inside, wherever you see the ants. Cockroaches I know nothing about...I would just pack my bags and run I know that much.

Find an exterminator that guarantees the work. That way if you still have bugs, you wont get charged for it.
Plus you should clean with bleach as often as possible, and don't leave any food items out at all.
